Spotted, its a BAD way to ship, but dont panic yet. It will survive a few days without water, heat is not a death sentence in itself, so long as its not in really cold or hot conditions. Air is more of a worry, although snakes have a low oxygen demand due to slower metabolism, if its cooler ,its metabolism will be a little slower, so not ness in danger there yet. Physical handling of the package however, IS a concern. hopefully its well marked "live reptile" and someone with a few brains who cares, will have made sure its handled gently. (heres hoping, fingers crossed for you). I would never buy from that person again, atleast not while he/she ships like that. Lesson in it for you, now your that much wiser, hope all goes well. might be worth getting the shipping number etc and ringing aus post yourself.

SP,
Someone asked the question on here re: Posting snakes, can't remember who it was, but everyone said it was illegal and would give the reptile hobby more bad press if individuals chose to do it, not to mention the fact that it is winter and the snake will be exposed to many varying temps, poor handling etc..
Of course there are heavy fines for people that post reptiles through the post, not to mention what the RSPCA would say to.

I am not wanting to sound hard, but you are partly to blame here, common sense would tell you you can't do it, no matter what the owner tells you!

I just hope the snake does survive!

I would have thought that if the package was marked "LIVE REPTILES", and it is illegal to ship reptiles via Aust Express, then the package would have been confiscated.

If she doesn't want anyone to know what is inside then she already knows the laws regarding posting reptiles.

Good points posted. Sounds a very dodgy person. might be a hard lesson yet. how much did you pay for the hatchy? if you dont mind.?
General consensus seems to be, unless you really trust a breeder (over distance0 or its a well known outfit (snakes nt or urs etc) ,its probly best to buy as local as possible. also less stress to the animal imo.

Dont take Nc's comments too personally spotted, he is kind of right, a little more homework might have saved you tears. take it standing up and put it down to inexperience. atleast sharing it here, may save others from going through what you are now. cheer up.
