What do you do with your old frozen mice?

I have had my spotted for a few months now, she's shed twice and has supremely outgrown her food. So I upped the size of her food which left me with several fuzzies in the freezer of no use (she's eating weaners which also getting to small but full grown is still a little too big).

Now I know somepeople double up on thier feeds by giving two fuzzies instead of one weaner... But one weaner has more bones and calcium etc (so i have been told) than two fuzzies.

So my question is... what do I do with my 7 fuzzies that I now no longer really have a use for?

Does anyone feed them to the wild? Throw them in the bin (seems like a waste)? Or just feed them to their snake anyway?

Feed them all to her. If one of my smaller snakes refuses a feed I just give it to one of my bigger garbage disposals. It's just a little snack/smaller meal for them. It's not going to lead to any kind of deficiency for your spotted

Thats what I've been doing.

Give him one big one at one feed, then two smaller ones at the next feed.

Will a snake refuse a feed when full? And do they eat two at once... ie do I just put two fuzzies in the tank with her... let her grab one in the usual manner and drop the second one in there too?

I like snakes4me2's suggestion... what should I get next.... hmmmm... lol... unfortunately not a possible option at the moment

Just stuff one fuzzy inside of the other one with a little frankenstein surgery - to make a Super-Fuzzy!

I know when I feed my girl, she is always looking around for a while for it's silly buddy, who might be hanging around wondering where Fred went, once she is finished!

Opportunist feeders.

Snakes in the wild don't have the choice of selecting the right-sized mouse (within reason of course!) If they have to have 2 smaller ones instead of one bigger one, that's fine. don't worry about the nutrition levels of one versus the other - it's not an issue.

If you have a few snakes, be very careful if you offer rejected food from one snake to another, esoecially if you have had it for a shortish time, ie., less that 12 months. This is a prime way to spread serious viral infections.

I have some snakes that simply will not take a second food item, I have some that will take 10 if offered. Just thaw a few out, feed 2-4 at one time, it won't hurt.
The kookas love them if the snake refuses to eat them, the kookas are nesting around my area and on the lookout for food, probably similar around you.

I usually try and feed my pythons "more" and "less often". Basically I feed them as much as they want and, particulary when they are young, wait until they are active and making "I am hungry" gestures again, wait a day or so more and then feed them their fill again. Doing this for young snakes usually means a week or two plus between feeds, longer if a slough occurs.

Reptiles have a metabolism that lifts a lot to digest food. As a result for effientcy reasons, they do well on bigger meals less often.

As for your fuzzies, just feed them off as others have suggested or get another small python.

Thanks guys for the comments... will do the double to tripple fuzzy day next week. It seems like there's no 'in between' sizes for mice... it's either all or nothing... I guess that's where breeding your own food comes in handy.

For young pythons I find it pays to keep a pair of mice, freezing off the young ones at the appropriate size. Once they on to adult mice (or rats for that matter) it is easier to source frozen food from commercial suppliers.

... and yes the Herp Shop does stock frozen rodents but they are not on the web site as they are pick up only. Give Brian a call if you are interested.
