What do you use?

G'day just wanted to find out what heat/light bulbs the majority of people use in their enclosures.

In all my snake/lizard enclosures I've got ceramics and zoomed 5.0 compact fluro's. Ceramics are on microclimates with day highs and night lows and my fluro's are on timers. (On during the morning/afternoon and off at night).

I have noticed that some people just use single bulbs in their enclosures for a basking spot which also produces light 24/7. Are snakes ment to have natural photoperiod?

Cheers. Lance.

I use the ceramic "globes" for night heating and for day heating i use cheap supermarket globes. Either reflector globes or the normal rounded ones.

I dont keep anything that needs Fluro tubes.

It's always best that snakes have a natural photoperiod but i have never adhered to a strict photoperiod for my animals at any time of the year. Even when kept inside i think many herps can sense whats going on with the weather outside, especially if they can see out a window, and they tend to react to these outside conditions more than they do their enclosure temps.

I use 15, 25 or 40 watt blue bulbs depending on cage size and time of year.

Reptilia it would be wise to put guards around any globe thats mounted within an enclosure. I know it makes me sleep better.

I have heatmats in virtually all my enclosures. LIghting is either compact fluorescents, or reflector globes to provide a basking spot for the lizards.
