What size encloser do you suggest for a sand monitor?

What size enclosures do you suggest/use to keep an adult Sand Monitor (Gouldi) in. I'm in the process of buying one that is coming with a 4 ft X 4 ft enclosure. I was thinking of building something longer and thinner? Any suggestions.
