Hi guys, well i get my 6 month old Maculosa this week and i just want to check the temps that i should be aiming for in the warm and cool area's, I'm currently sitting between Cool 29 - Warm 34oC using a red heat lamp, UV light and room heater and last night with out the room heater and UV light it got down to Cool 19 - Warm25oC. I have a upsidedown ceramic bowl under the heatlamp to bring it closer and to warm the ground serface, but i will remove it if you guys think that it is too hot.
What is the warmest it should be at and What is the coldest?
I also had to put alfoil around the light cage to direct the heat down to get a definate cool zone because i was only getting a 1oC differance.
Here is a picture.
Thanks guys.

Hi dynea!
I like the alfoil idea for the light, might do that myself.
What do you have as substrait?

I prefer to keep mine a bit cooler especially at the cool end, ie max of about 32 and the cool end substantially lower, but see what area your snake is using if its always towards the cool end id drop the temps a bit for sure.
The night time temps seem fine to me

A 6 month old mac would be far better off in a tub sitting on a heat mat than a cage of that size. Not sure about wrapping the light cage in foil.It could cause the wiring and fitting to become extremely hot if it is trapping heat.

Thanks guys. He's going to arrive in a container and I was going to use it if he seemed nervous. I just wraped the alfoil around the sides, the top is still left open so i was hoping that it would allow the heat to escape.
I'm going to change the substraigt to newspaper, but that is outdoors carpet.

maybe I should get a older one for that enclosure  and and build an new enclosure for the Mac when he get's big enough. LOL... I'll see what my husband say's.
I'll buy a heat mat this week before i get him, and keep him in a click clack.
Just when i told my husband i was finished spending money....LOL.... I find out I got to excited and spent too much too soon.
Thanks again guys.
I will use your advice.

Hi Dynea
It is hard to not go out and buy the biggest enclosure at first ( or build it ) I did the same thing!
I am lucky that my snake is a bit older than the one your getting and has had no worries going into his new enclosure, I still have his click clack handy for emergencies though.
at least you can keep the small click clack inside the one you have for better temp controll though.
