Step 1:

The first step is to take away part of the lid of the container and to replace it with fly screen. The idea is to use the soldering iron to melt away the corners of the area you wish to remove and then cut away the rest with the hacksaw blade.

Hi I get a bucket with a lid and cut a hole in the lid place a piece of steel gauze on top of it and then I get a hot soldering iron an run it over the steel gauze melting it to the plastic lid. I find that is the best thing to store pin head crix in

If you only have a pathetic soldering iron like myself (20w) it may not get hot enough to do it well, therefore I just ran a line of 'hard as nails' along where the mesh sits on the lid and push it into it. The hard as nails is fairly thick so as long as your mesh is fairly flat, it will hold it and dry hard. Did the job well with mine.

mate for pin heads just put them in a open topped container and no substrate. I use those 28 litre tubs from Bunnings. They cant get out until they are big enough to hop out (2-3 weeks old)

my pin heads live in a click clack on top of my freezer. Even when I take the lid off they arent anywhere near big enough to jump out, even medium sized ones cant seem to jump out. My bigger ones live outside in a 52 litre tub by the back door without a lid (well, they did, until some bird had a field day and ate them all, now the lid is securely back on with holes drill in the top!)

Cheers

Then there's the question of how people manage to only get a few crickets out of their containers to be fed.. sheesh!

easy if you have no substrate and use egg carton for the crickets to hide in. Just shake the egg carton into a small chinese container.

If you are using a substrate then its very hard to seperate them from the flooring.

Lol thats what i found with both crickets and woddies feeding our new GTF I have crickets in the garage chirping away after our fist feeding. even just transfereing them from container they brought in to their new living space was a dramma woddies everywhere lol.I find the easiest way is the egg container idea Put the whole thing in the GTF enclosure open the lid then shake about the right amount out any escapees are soon eaten up and not running round the house Apparently u can get something to smear around the top of container to stop them getting out!!!
