What type of snake

Hey all this was my first encounter with a "live" snake which is about 11 years ago now. i m the one on the left (with the head). i am wondering if anyone can tell me what type he is. if it makes a defference this photo was taken at townsville Billabong wildlife santuary. judging by the size comparison i think he was about 5 ft.

sorry about the quality of the pic but it was the best i could do.

A very dark Black-head ? Maybe.
