whats better

I have rats and mice as pets for food and i am curious as to what is better nutrtion for a juvinile spotted a mouse which has fur and is further developed or a rat pink which in many cases rats are better... now he will eat both no worries and when he is older ill get him onto rats but for the time being whats better maturity or general size??

RE: whats better

I think it is better if the prey animal has a bit more maturity. Their bones have had a chance to calcify a bit more, and they have more muscle. The fur also helps to make their stools firmer (easier to clean up). I always thought it was best to get them off pink food sooner rather than later.

RE: whats better

considering i re-read his post and he is feeding a spotted i change my answer to mice like what g.w said but also tha spotted dont have to take much larger than mice when full grown anyways so not really a need for rats

RE: whats better

Go the mice with fur until it's big enough to take fuzzy rats.
