What's the difference

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the following....

Hopper - Fuzzy - Velvet mice.

One person is telling us to feed our boys fuzzies and others are saying velvets....

then we were told that one of them (he's slightly bigger than the other but only 7 weeks old) says Hopper mice....

thanks!

G'day Val,

The problem with the common labels rodent breeders apply to their frozen rodents is that they are very rarely correct. You can be quite variable with your food items and I highly doubt you will feed it anything too big as most pythons are capable of eating quite large prey.

As a general guide, try and feed something about 20-40% of your young pythons body weight once a week. It should leave a noticeable bulge in it's stomach for 2-3 days. Don't worry about all the scaremongers - most new keepers grossly underfeed their snakes with regards to prey size.

If you are still a little unsure, take a photo of the snake having a feed and it will be easy to determine whether the prey item is of suitable size.

Cheers

Jonno

Velvets and fuzzies are pretty much the same thing, hoppers are the next size up.
