Ive seen the odd white woodie but never saw one pop out till today.
Whats it doing and why does it do this fellow Earthlings?

it had shed its shell/skin.. they just slough that harder black shell.. thats
what they look like before the new shell hardens

It is a similar process to reptiles shedding their skin, insects have an exoskeleton which they outgrow and must shed. all woodies do it, they turn darker as the new exoskeleton hardens.
