Use stainless steel sink strainers. They cost a hell of a lot less and don't look too bad either.

Clints (Warehouse, Solly's, etc) have metal sink strainers that make great vents! Only about 80 cents each and easy to install.

Or you could drill holes and screw them in. Or use wood glue.
