Hi
Just want to know why you love owning herps? My 13 year old daughter just got her first snake after years of convincing me to let her get one. She now has a childrenii which is just a delight. Now Mum and Dad want one too...
We joined this site and the advise has been invaluable and APS is truely addictive!!!
I want to know why you all love owing herps so much and why they seem to be so addictive?
Interested to hear your responses!!
Thanks Beth

because when someone shows me thier beloved pet cat, and i show them my beloved pet snake, and say i think he's hungry, i watch them back away in terror that my snake will attempt to have a purrrfect meal...
nah lol (LAME i know but im bored) i think the reason im all over them is because they are different, i cant explain it except im drawn to the fact the spotlight is on feral animals, when our beloved herps are being pushed aside! so i give all my attention to herps

Dunno exactly, even as a kid i loved reptiles id go out with a friend and catch garden skinks etc. I guess its like people are drawn to cats or dogs or birds or fish cept with us its reptiles =P.
Theres also the factor of it being different, you see people with dogs and cats etc everyday but you dont always see someone with snakes.

One reason I love herps is because their poo is not as big as my dogs.

ive always loved reptiles but never got any til i was 18,
as i kid i was always playing with the backyard bluetongues and other skinks, not realyl sure what first attracted me to them, but the thing the got into actually keeping reptiles was the low maintinence.
id kept tropical freshwater and marine fish tanks for about 3 years and had thriving tanks, however when i started full time work my tanks went downhill due to not having enough time to correctly maintain them. so i sold because i felt it was unfair to the fish. But reptiles can be kept with far less effort, and they still thrive. also you can actually pick up a snake, which you cant do with a fish (espcially not a lionfish).

Because they're so prehistoric and wild It's like owning something that lived millions of years before us.

It's a good question and a lot of ppl do ask it. My reply is they are different. I was always fascinated with snakes as a child, as soon as I had the opportunity to own one I did, I do believe they are addictive though, it's hard to stop at one.

I like that its different (not to copy anyone here) they are graceful and intelligent and yes low maintenance. Ive always enjoyed being a little different to everyone else and whats more different than feeding the mouse to the snake rather than having it as a pet?
