Woma's Personalities, People's Experience!

Hay guys,

Im thinking of getting 2 woma hatchlings, probably Tanami. Im just wanting/needing people's opinions and experience with Woma pythons, and tanami womas. As hatchling, adults, handling, eating, etc etc. Any help at all much appreciated. Thanks

Well I got a adult male here, he's great to hold, never tried to bite me (only head butted logan once). There pretty similar to BHP's in the way they are kept and how placid they are. Although in saying that I have seen evil one's especially in the youngsters. And another thing with woma's I've seen is there usually good but they have days were they just don't want any company

I have a male and female SA Woma and now one male Tanami Woma. The male SA is an absolute sweetheart, wouldn't know how to bite. He is just so incredibly laid back. You can place him on the computer desk and he doesn't try to move away, just looks around. The female SA Woma I don't trust. She has bitten me a few times and will open her mouth ready for a bite if you put your hand in her enclosure. The male Tanami is a bit jumpy but hasn't bitten, yet!! He does head butt, but isn't anywhere near as docile as the SA male. I have a female Tanami on order from Snake Ranch. Be interesting how she behaves.

Im just deciding as i cannot stand snappy snakes. Ive been told womas have a strong feeding response, and will eat just about anything, including arms, fingers and hands. I was tossing up between blonde macs and tanami womas. I know the womas a much nicer looking but the blonde macs will just about be guarenteed to be a placid snake. What do you all think i should do in this situation? Ive never been unsure about buying any reptile but the womas i am - as im afraid they will be a snappy snake... Thanks!

Winston, the male SA Woma gets handled probably every second day. The female SA Woma I will get her out with a hook and let her wander about on the floor for awhile. The Tanami gets handled again about every two days. No, I haven't had them sice hatchies. They are about 9 months old and I know the female SA was not handled very often. If you met Winston you would fall in love with him. Pity they are not all like him!

My pair of Tanami's are very placid until they smell rat! Then it is on for young and old I have been tagged a couple of times while feeding because they strike at anything moving and if they don't hit the rat on the first strike, they swing around and come back at my hand! Pretty much the same as my olives.

I have one darling Tanami Jambi..... and he is sooo placid and gentle and has been from day one....

I havent even experienced the 'strong feeding response' hes even very gentle when taking the rat although he will eat anything at any time!!!

Hes also somewhat like a dog... i know that sounds stupid but everytime there is movement in the room he is in or someone walks past he bolts straight to the cage door and paces up and down hoping someone will let him out, he'll even follow your finger on the glass LOL

My mum has totally fallen in love with him, when i first got him she was always making excuses to come over to my place.

Get a Woma, you won't be disappointed. Get in contact with a good breeder and maybe if you get the chance go over and pick one out yourself.

Good Luck..... let us know how you go

I think womas are excellent snakes. Mine are very food motivated and might accidentally tag you if they were hungry, but otherwise they are very placid. I was lucky that mine were placid from the day I got them I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a snake. Very easy to take care of also.

Great thread peeps. I was hellbent on getting a BHP for my first but having read about the Tanami Womas I'm not so sure now. Maybe someone out there can tip the scales either way as an argument for and against a Tanami Woma or BHP? And hatchy or yearling?

Many thanks.

Ash.

Id recommend Tanami over Bhp anyday. Ive had Bhps and they were nasty and super temperamental. My boyfriend has 2 Tanamis now and they are just fantastic. Bhps were yearlings/sub adults and Tanamis are hatchys. Youd think it would be the other way around lol. Tanami for sure.

Thanks sxc_celly.....appreciate your feedback. Maybe I just sound like a big woos.....

Like any animal I take on, I always fully research it first. Anyone got any good care sheets and the like on Tanami's or just normal Womas for that matter.

Cheers.
