Hi!
To all the black-headed python breeders out there, i was wondering what methods you use to get trouble feeding hatchlings to eat b4 sale?. I've tried using diferent size and age mice and rats, braining, senting, leaving in over night, assist feeding (just spits out everytime), dangling with tweezers, i've put him into a small click-clack with water and a hide for three weeks and he still aint interested. temp are 30-32 in hot end he is active and alert. he has had a vet check and is fine.
i've had him for 6 weeks now and he was force fed 2 rats tails 10 days after i got him and he was force red a rat pup the following week. its now been 3 full weeks with trying to feed him once a week and he still aint interested.
sorry for the long thread didnt want to leave anything out.
any advice thanks in advance.

Patience.
6 weeks is nothing for a BHP and I would suggest not trying more than once a week, twice a week at most.

not sure really i said to the breeder i didnt want him till he was feeding and he said that he ate a small adult mouse the night b4 and that i shouldnt have a prob. and he was the one who came out to my place and tried the assist feeding and when that failed he force fed 2 rats tails. so im guessing that small adult mouse was the first feed he had taken so..........thats all i know

bhp are one of the hardest to get feeding i would just leave him alone for a week to 10 days just check his water and thats it (no handling) then put a live valvet rat or hopper mouse one that moves around a little more than a pinky. what size enclosure ya got it in?

I wouldn't worry -snakes can go a long time without eating - they dont feed that often in the wild. My Olive is being a ratbag feeder too, I'll have to get my hands on some chicken down.

a 1foot by 1foot click-clack . dont really wanna try live, to get him eating as it would be too difficult to get him to eat dead prey??? he has been non disturbed except cleaning and water change for 3 weesk now. and still no interest.

when should i worry because he is a hatchling that is 11 weeks old and not growing and has only been force fed a couple of times and he is starting to show some loose skin.

Will the breeder take him back until he is feeding? I went through the same thing as you are going through, tried everything - unfortunately the end result for me was not good.
