worming

gday all

Do you all worm your snakes as a matter of course ie every 12 months?

If so, what do you use???

Flagyl (I thought) was the best. Not sure how much to give.

once you worm your snakes you shouldn't have to do it again, unless it has gotten worm again somehow.

When i say worming, I mean a good ol clean out, hence the reason I said Flagyl.

Okay I will try one of the ones you guys mentioned. never heard of it.

worming

ICEMAN is right you should do a back-up worm-out 11-13 days after the first to break the gestation or egg cycle...NO MANUFACTURER will give 100% on killing all eggs and with round worms laying up to 200,000 eggs per day [although with a high mortality rate] a back-up is necessary...if its to be done properly.....WR.

A good rule that I have is to treat every 12months regardless. I also do regular Faecal Floats to see if there are any parasites at all. If not then no need for worming, if there is then they all get done and I try and work out where the parasites come from!

Flagyl (metronidazole) is for protozoans not worms. Be very careful using flagyl, it can cause muscle spasms. Also it can cause seizures if overdosed. I dose it at 100mg/kg and repeat in 14days. You can treat at a lower dose more regularly if needed or worried about seizures.
Panacur (Fenbedazol) is a very safe wormer to use for nematodes. It can be given orally or precloacally. I dose it at 50mg/kg repeat every 14days until clean faecal sample.
Ivomec (Ivermectin) is another, but again you have to be careful on dosing as it can be fatal at high doses. It is also toxic on Chelonians and crocs so dont give it to them!
You can give Droncit (Praziquantel) for tapeworms, I dose at 8mg/kg and repeat in 14days. It can also be used to treat Pentastomids but you shouldn't be seeing them in captive reptiles, only wild ones.

Panacur would be the safe wormer of choice from a vet clinic, you can buy others from pet shops but I dont know how well they work. Flagyl should only be used if they are known to have protozoans as you put a risk in giving it to them.
Hope this helps you out and it is just my opinion on worming

In my opinion this product is rubbish and not worth using. Vetafarm Wormout Gel and Panacur are the best options.

I've never used it (or even heard of it actually) so i can't give a comment on it. But Top Of Descent is awesome for treating mites. It is quite cheap, quite safe and extremely effective.

Stewy depending on the drug in it and the strength of it is gonna say if it works or not.

Its like buying drontal from the vets for your dog or exelpet from woolies. One will leave less than 1% of worms, the other can leave up to 75%!!

All wormers work but its their effectiveness that differs
