I use coco-peat for my centipede and it's great. Environmentally friendly (as opposed to peat moss that is harvested from peat bogs - thanks for the info hornet). Holds moisture well. Cheap. Good stuff I found. For inverts, at least.

the coco fibre would have similar effects to the crushed walnut shell substrate, it not only impacts but can also shred up the digestive system.

*warning graphic images* http://mrskingsbioweb.com/beardeddragngrossanatomy.htm most substrates (any particle substrate) will and can impact. as no particle substrate is 100 % digestible.

i would try useing slate or ceramic tile. it looks good and easy to clean. and can look very natural. theres isnt really a 100% safe particle substrate. and if your lookign for natural slate can do it..

Do you mean coir (often incorrectly called coconut peat)? I've never heard of coconut bark, in fact coconuts being a palm tree don't really have bark.
Coir is no good as a python substrate, it needs to be kept moist or it will dry everything around it out, it's very hydrophilic. Keeping it moist will raise the humidity too much for pythons.
