    gentle giant tongs

just having a look at www.animalattraction.com.au and saw the gentle giant tongs on the reptile products page.

Has anyone used these? if so what is your opinion of them and also the mark o'shea hook (midwest products in general) i am thinking of getting one of each now that they are available in australia

I don't think I'd ever use tongs on a snake but then again I only keep pythons, might be different story if I kept elapids. I just feel that mechanical tongs could be damaging in the heat of a hairy moment. Of course, they'd be great if you were just using them to reach boxes off the top shelf

by the look of the jaw on them they look very comfortable for the snake, a lot better then some that are around at the moment (closed one on my hand the other day in a shop near me and was amazed at how hard the grasp was), these look like a great alternative.

I haven't used them on any pythons before myself, but have used them on a few venomous, including one Wires rescue me and Hugsta done a few month's back, in which the snake was at the bottom of a pit filled with water, floating in the middle on a peice of wood.....Yes, very useful they were! LOL!

Maybe so but the grip is still mechanical and therefore you can't know exactly how much pressure you are applying to the snake. Just my opinion but I think I'll stick with it By the way, what will you be using the tongs on?

    Hey Afro,

He wasn't out for the day, apparently he had been there for a couple and was extremely glad to get into a warm viv, have a bite to eat and be released in a less aquatic enviroment! LOL!

    RE: gentle giant tongs

i must say i held a midwest hook the other day and my god they are very very very light. and the tongs look very good as well, they dont close all the way going on what i was told they seem alot better than the other ones around like someone stated earlier in this thread.
