Lace monitor.
The first thing you notice about a Lace Monitor is how reptilian they look. Immensely powerful, they possess all the skills of a crack SAS outfit - camouflage, strength, speed and rat cunning. -Steve Waters.

Lacie, "varanus varius"

At Rover park, it's between Drake and Tenterfield NSW.
That wasn't the only one I saw, there was one REALLY close to my campsite, going up a tree lol, made my day - that's for sure.

They love camp sites.

I used to live near Drake its not just the campsites, the whole place is thick with lacies. They used to drive my dog insane pinching food and bones that he'd stashed. Lots of other herps up there and gorgeous country to boot, well worth a look.
