    Pygopods

Very interested in keeping some scaley foots/feet
Can only keep P. lepidopodus and P. nigriceps in Vic so if you have either I'd love to talk to you.
Didn't make it a wanted ad because I wanted to encourge discussion (and can't be bothered bumping ads all the time).
My current avatar is a P. schraderi very nice animals.

    cheers jordo

    Jordo,
They are such beautiful animal aren't they. Can be a little fiesty (from my limited experience) but otherwise very interesting animals.

I personally only have an interest in Delma species but Pygopus, Paradelma and Lialis are all very nice aswell. Shame they don't seem to be very common though.

I'd love to keep Delma as well but we can only keep 3 species in Vic on basic licence, the two I mentioned and burton's , which I'm not as keen on with the whole skink feeding thing.

Hey Jordo, can you not keep schraderi in Vic? I would have thought there would be a few floating around down there that were formerly identified as nigriceps. I can't recall when they were split up.

The problem with Pygopus is they are still not being reliably bred in captivity. I'm not even aware of a documented case of nigriceps being captive bred (though I would have to assume someone has done it at some point). Your best bet is to contact those few people who keep them and convince them you are worthy of any offspring they manage to breed (bearing in mind they probably have a list of interested people already).

Its a tough one, but well worth it if you can get hold of some animals.

Interesting point you raised, I'm sure schraderi would exist in captivity in Vic, if not from before the split there would still be poached individuals that could have made it onto the books under the nigriceps name.

I'm getting on the right track although I've decided to hold of for a year and sell a few animals first then have the setup up and running before getting some (I'll probably go for lepidopodus), it'll be hard to wait that long though but for that kind of money you need everything right.

what are the possibility of someone in vic wth an excepional amount of experience being given a harvesting permit. there are so many people who are after the pygopus and delma species and just cant find them. does dse ever allow people to obtain wild caught species if there are a only a minamal amount in captivity.4 years ago i said to myself that within a few years they should be more accessable................i think there are ever lesser animals available to this day.

About nil... and personally I don't like that they give out collecting permits for private wildlife holders in some states (they should initially come through zoos imo).

What's the issue with collect permits Jordo? Better than people going out and poaching stuff. If the application process is thorough and the purpose for the collection valid, I have no issue with it. There are a few new species becoming available simply because some of us have the opportunity and the motivation to go through this process. If I were to offer you some Delma australis for example, because I had gone to the effort of applying for a permit to collect them and then figured out how to breed them, are you really saying you would turn me down on moral grounds?

After all, how many of the Pygopods currently held privately originated from zoo collections? With the sporadic breeding success that still exists within this group, I can't see Burtons etc. establishing in captivity without future acquisitions of wild animals.

That's just my 2 cents worth anyway.

I would have no issues buying animals that were bred from WC individuals (I even have a legally WC animal at the moment), obviously the only way some species will be available in captivity later on is by this process, I just don't want to see the laws relax enough to allow just anyone to do it (or be able to pay to do it without demonstrating experience and knowledge).

Yep, I absolutely share your opinion on that one Jordo, which is why I support a regulated system whereby a person can obtain a permit to collect by showing their abilities and intentions. By the way, I prefer a system which only allows captive-bred offspring to be traded, not the wild-caught animals.

What sort of money have they been going for?
