This here is really bugging me
Go on gumtree, type in Adelaide Region, SA. Search Python and scroll down until you see
WANTED: wanted python hatchlings or a little older. It should have a pic of a red GTP on a pencil.
These ads are the ones that make me really, really, REALLY annoyed! Why? Read it yourself and you'll find out: Not much money, need fair bit of money for let alone a decent snake but the set up and food aswell. Wants any python> there fore he has done minimum research and when he gets it he won't know what to do with it!!! Oh, yeah and he has a BOA and BALL PYTHON picture posted...
Once you see this you may or may not feel the same way
It may just be the way i interpritated it but this really still does annoy me!
(sorry if this has already been posted, I'm not up to date
)
I have skin. Potatoes have skin. Therefore I am a potato.

I reckon good on him , if he gets a leg up in the hobby good for him ... I have given away a few snakes to young kids just like this in the past and all of them are still keeping the same snake today , they are housed and fed properly too.
I find this thread whinging about him doing this more annoying than him asking for a free/cheap snake ...

Free snakes to kids that are willing to take good care of them is a good idea in my opinion, provided they are old enough to take care of them properly. They are great animals and I wish that I had more experience with them growing up. But this poor kids expections may be a bit over the top. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think a few of us would love to get our hands on the albino bumese or ball python shown in the pictures she has up (I may be wrong, just a guess of what they are as I'm still new to this
) Of course I do know why they are illegal in AUS and am fully for it.
Still, hopefully a nice person that does have a good understanding of suitable first time snakes (that are reasonably cheap) and of course what is legal in AUS will sit her down and give her some helpful info

Nothing wrong with asking for free snakes..Free snakes for everyone!
"cheers -stupid nickname"

He's also asking for other free reptiles and looking to buy a reptile rack - looks like he's wanting to get as much as he can get his hands on, not just that one snake he's always been dreaming about.
then =/= than

Clearly, education is required to correct the ignorance evident in the add. It is a fair bet that someone who has no idea about something as fundamental as what can be kept in this country and their particular state, probably has an equivalent lack knowledge and understanding of how to keep these animals. A leg up into the hobby for the likes of the poster requires a lot more than a simple hand-out.
Dicyknee,
If the kids you have given away snakes to are indeed like this one, then I would suggest you have omitted the education you also provided. For you to be able to comment on their keeping at present indicates that you spent time on-site with them on an on-going basis. Good on you for that.

Grrrr I get annoyed at people making decisions to get pets on a whim. "ooooh look at this puppy he's so cute!" 5 months later "eww he's big and poos more than i expected, can I get a refund?"
