You may have found him, etc, but you haven't bothered to answer any of the basic questions asked within this thread - like how he got the snakes without payment, did you get his licence number, etc. Why not share the whole tale?

I have followed this thread and have given my sympathy. But I agree why do we not know the whole story???
Perhaps the OP is embarassed in being conned? If this is case please don't be, I am sure we have all fallen for some scam at some stage or another. I know I have - non reptile though.
I imagine you must have his licence number though, as how else coud you fill in the paperwork? Could this not be given to DERM?
Mine do not leave without receiving a licence number and it must be cash at pick up time (never at my home address), or direct deposit prior to freighting. Now while I appreciate those people freighting their purchases in are putting their trust in the sellers, they can always get references to put their minds at ease.
I had one buyer send me a snap shot of her transfer into my bank account incase I was worried about payment. I was not but it was still reassuring to get it.
I have found the majority of scammers & picture collectors and please no hating for this....but....their english & spelling is always poor.

That's easy to say. How would you do "research" on someone you don't know and he/she wants to buy animals from you? Especially if someone operates under several alias names.

I've had 4 transactions in my life and can't say that I have never done "research". I don't beleive he "deserved" to be ripped off for not reasearching, what an a** thing to say. If anything in your life hasn't gone the way you planned what your saying is that its entirely your fault as your didn't research? Get a life!
As for the reptile licence number. You hand the forms in after you sell the reptile. whats not to say that he hasn't made digets up in the reptile number? Who's to say the data gets automatically put in by derm? I worked for derm, things don't get done as soon as they arrive, it can take months-in saying that if his given a fake RWL No. it might not ring alarm bells for a few months.

Just bad luck, but in future more care should be taken to avoid the situation! Hope you got them back mate!

Wake up mate, really. Had Rory McLean come to me to buy snakes before these postings, I wouldn't know him from a bar of soap. I wouldn't give him (or to anyone else) any snakes until the payment was secured but it has got nothing to do with any preliminary research - where would I start, with a Police check?. Do you research everyone who deals with you?

Wow i just did a quick google for "Rory Mclean" and i got about2,120,000results. how do you pick which one to research?

i also searched for myself with my name and address without one of the links having anything to do with me... please tell me how you would research a prospective buyer or seller.

It also goes both ways... Rory has sold a lot of animals that he doesnt own.... When we all buy snakes do we deposit the money BEFORE the snakes are sent (yes) or does the seller send the snakes first??? (NO).. We pay for our animals in good faith that we will receive the animals we purchased.... But Rory doesnt do this, he takes your money but doesnt send animals... I was speaking with someone recently who paid $5500 for a number of snakes from Rory.... Now in the scheme of things im sure a lot of us have parted with big money for animals over the years.... BUT Rory never sent any animals.... He did keep the money though.......

Yes I'm now awake thanks for pointing that out. And yes I would ask around about him, want to see drivers license and reptile permit especially if I hadn't got any money for them yet (if I already had the money then I would only ask for permit details.) I always check out who I'm buying off before sending money and as I only buy top quality animals the people selling them are normally very well known. Anyone who puts money into strangers account with out checking some stuff out first is clearly too stupid to have money in the first place. Stop and think, take responsibility for your actions.
