Pet shop advice vs. APS advice
So I have a year old (just under a meter) male bredli who I love to death and want to do the right thing for.
I've bought him a big tank (4ft, a bit big for him at the moment I know) which I have just started setting up and I went out today to pick up some supplies..
I am currently in Cairns at the moment and the chick at the petshop gave me some advice that I wanted to double check
1. I don't need any heating up here.
2. I need a UVA/UVB light for him
3. He's fine without heat even in the aircon
I admit I am not sure what to do with heating up here.. but people in the petshops who give reptile advice make my skin crawl for some reason and I always like to double check.
Thanks in advance!!Sarah: 1 Bredli (Mushu)

Every reptile needs a heat source. You do not need UVA/UVB.
It may be different in a hot climate, best to check with peeps that live up there.

Thanks for your help Fay and Jas - I did dismiss a lot of what she was saying but it's made me uneasy about heating.
I think a good thermostat is definitely in orderSarah: 1 Bredli (Mushu)

just let the thermostat do the work. if its hot it wont turn on the heat and if its cold(aircon) then it will kick in and get the needed temp. i think only diamonds need uva/uvb and even then ive heard of people not using them with diamond and still have no problems.

To put it plainly the chick in the petshop is a moron.
You need to heat as you would any other snake kept in an air conditioned environment to provide a basking spot and gradient.
You dont need UV though some prefer to use it "just in case". Its an unnecessary expense in my opinion.

Yes you still need heat, especially if it's in a air-conditioned room, just make sure you have a thermostat, so you don't cook your snake if it does gets to hot.
No, snakes don't need UVA/UVB light (there nocturnal remember), pet shops will tell you that so you spend more money in there shop.

Well what are your room temps? Bredli's can happily sit in a 35+ degree hot spot. You might just want a low watt heat source like a heat chord.

Not all pet shops give bad advice and there is some REALLY bad advice given on here from time to time , but I suggest you find a better shop.
I know people in cairns who still heat their snakes , and of cause in aircon you will have to heat them , Just use a thermo and low wattage so nothing will overheat."cheers -stupid nickname"

Just a kind of on topic question when do you need to use uv/UVB and when don't you need to?
