Quick advise, thermastat not working
Hi there!
after loosing my snake a year ago I have finally gotten myself a baby Stimpson python today. before I get told off I DID check all my equipment was still working before bringing her home but now for some reason the thermastat isnt switching on the heat mat! The temp reading in her tank is 28.5 degrees without any heat though, but its heading into night time and the petshop is closed.... any suggestions? will she be ok overnight????
please help, Im really concerned

she will be fine for "the night" if your getting 28 without any aid...maybe put some heat into it before u go to bed then turn it off. im sure she will be fine m8. .if your really worried set your alarm and check during the night. mate my guy went for a few days without a thermo i just turned the heat mat on every now and then whilst home but over night i just left it off and during the day whilst i was working had it off

it will be fine mate, take care of it tomorrow and sleep soundly knowing it wont be a problem, if you are still concerned just put the heat mat on over night without the thermostat but lift its enclosure well up above the heat and only to one end and provide an elevated area for it to move to if it needs to

She will be fine. Some parts of there range get towards freezing at certain times of the year.

That's it but if your temps are going to be below zero for the next few days you may want to snuggle in with it till you get a thermo haha

Yeah being here on the Gold Coast won't be a problem for a night. Unless your house in unusually cold the temp inside probably won't drop below mid 20's.
As mentioned you could turn heat on for a bit or you could also move the mat so only a cm or so is actually under the tank and leave on all night. That way it won't be enough to actually heat the tank but provide a small section of warmth the snake can get up against if it wants to.
If you turn it on now and leave it on while monitoring temps until you go to bed, you'll get an idea if the max temp will get too high.
If it puts your mind at ease I know of quite a few people, including breeders, in Bris and Gold Coast who don't use heating at all with no problems. DISCLAIMER: I am not saying this is recommended or correct, just saying they do it with no apparent ill effects on the species they keep.

Thanks so much guys, I love the support available on this site! I have turned the heat mat on for a little bit before I go to bed and then Ill turn it off over night, the temp in her tank is still 26 without heat and although I live in a shed and its cold and rainy as far as Im concerned... she seems quite content. phew!

How is the enclosure setup? Where is the thermostat probe positioned? Where are you reading the temperature? What wattage is the heat mat?
Turning it off wont hurt but if you have things setup badly you could start a fire if you leave it on.
