| | | Purchased a coastal carpet about 4 or 5 weeks ago now and as of yet it hasn't feed. The previous owner also said that it hadn't eaten for a further 3-4 weeks prior to that. About once a week I try dangle a rat in front of its face but it doesn't really show any interest at all, and prefers to move away from it if you bring it too close. Previous owner said he was feeding it on rats & also baby pigeons.
I'm not sure if its just off food because the enclosure is quite large or if its just getting cold (one corner of the enclosure is around 30 degrees though).
He is starting to get quite lean so im getting a little worried. Does anyone have any ideas, or should I not be concerned? He has a little damage to the scales on his head also. The previous owner said he some sticker or bit of magazine/newspaper that was lining the bottom of his enclosure stuck to his head.
The enclosure he is in must be around 1.5x1.2x600. I've got something 600x600x600 I could put him in for a while if you feel it'd help. I just need to setup some heating in it.
If anyone has any personal tricks of the trade and would like to try getting him feeding for me, im more then happy to facilitate this. I'm located in Brisbane.
I may be overacting, my other coastal will eat as much as you feed it, so this one not wanting a bar of it is a bit of a shock to the system. Picture of the snake below.
Cheers,
James. |

One thing i must ask though... does that snake have old skin from its last shed on its head and bits on its body? Looks like that in the pics, but it could just be the light tricking my eyes |

| | | | Haha, you guys obviously failed to read all my original post. As I mentioned, the previous owner of the snake said that it got something in its cage lining (be it wet newspaper or magazine or something) stuck to it head which caused the damage to the skin on its head. I don't know for sure though, could be leftover skin from a shed.
May be normal for it to go off its food coming into winter, my other coastal is just a pig. Infact, its trekking around its enclosure in one of those looking for food styles. It was only fed on Friday. |

good luck. |

What i did is slit the rats throat and put it in her hide... not gaping... just so as it might smell a little more like food also avoiding going near her for a week or so | | |
