A Wild Rat got very Near my Bluey.. Is my Bluey Ok?

A few days ago I posted asking for help with a "Rat Problem"

So far, the rat had stayed downstairs, away from our dog and my Blue Tongue's tank upstairs.

Last night, I left my bluey's uneaten food on the top of his tank.. and this morning, there was rat poo and scattered food everywhere! The rat has been near my bluey! Very lucky it didnt decide to drop in and have a go at him.

My blue tongue looks okay, not stressed out or anything at all today.. but Im concerned about mites or 'germs' as it is a wild rat or 'sewer rat' roaming our home.

Will my bluey be ok?

Ive disinfected the area the rat has been, and my blueys food bowl, should that be the end of it?

Isn't the fact that the owners aren't doing anything about this a breach of the tennants act? I'm not sure if all the laws are the same over there.

Yes, thats me, willia.
I work full time, so does my mum and my boyfriend, we havent had time to get to bunnings to get a rat trap.

Whether we like it or not, with nothing open today, we'll have to wait until tomorrow to buy a few rat traps.

Right now, Im just more worried about my bluey

Warr- Yes, yes it is. We rent a $570/week place between 3 people, we're very good tenants. But Im afraid the owners aren't very good owners. We had a leak in the floor of my shower for over 2 months before they finally (and with a LOT of whining) sent someone to fix it. The downstairs bathroom wall is Covered in mold, and they refuse to fix that either. This is the second time we've had rats.. and it looks like this is going to be the second time it comes out of our pockets too.

The bluey is probably okay, but I'd disinfect the area where the rat was, just to be sure it's clean. Only go to the vet if the lizard starts looking or acting abnormal.

We had thousands of dollars of damage in our place after a rat chewed through the dishwasher hose. If you point out to the landlord how much cheaper it would be to get an exterminator than to re-do the property, he might budge. Our exterminator in Sydney said that if you see one rat, you've probably got 5 or 10 more nearby. He and the wholesaler of professional baits have been extremely busy right now. Apparently there's a bit of a rat plague in Sydney. Not sure if QLD is so affected. Over-the-counter baits are not as effective as professional ones. Snap traps are actually humane because (if they work properly) they break the neck/back of skull and death is almost instant. Bread and jam worked well for us - nice and sticky.

Yeahhhh... My boyfriend is fanging to get a few snap traps I think. Its mum whos against it.

Poison is a silly idea because they can just crawl away somewhere to die and then stink up the walls.

Its already had a go at scratching around behind the dishwasher, but its been on since and no water leakage.

So, bluey should be fine, thank you everyone

And for future ref. Bread and Jam.. Peanutbutter and possibly Bacon Rind.. so far its been eating EVERYTHING in Sight!

I suggest putting mouse traps where ever you think it could be hiding, supposedly under the couch or somewhere dark maybe.
