I think it depends a lot on the size and condition of the snake.
Although i can't help you out with what the appropriate size is, sorry!

It is related to size not age, go to the care sheet section at www.herpshop.com.au
It has the minimum sizes for most common species of snakes.
If you power feed a python you can get them to breed fairly young, but they also die alot quicker.

Ok in regards to breeding im am basing my information on my experience with dogs an in that case any other animal
my understanding is that there are PEAK periods of breeding within any animal too young/too old and u seem to experience more complications *eg: power feeding ending in shorter life span* ...
Now my experience with dogs indicates that a good age/size of the animal is after the 3-4th heat. In reptile terms i would see this as after the 3-4th cooling ... So in the case of breeding any type of snake, obvious they will be too young the first year to cool so there for i feel a good age/size would be when the snake is roughly 4-5yrs old (obivously this would only be regarding the female as males would be different)
Please correct me if this is wrong in any way. im open for suggestions

To say it is related to size not age is incorrect. A water python can grow 1m in 12 months but will never breed if it is sexually immature. It needs age and size.

Womas, BHP and such have been recorded breeding from 18 months, or may not make size in 3 bad years and there for will not breed. Once a python reaches a certain size they can become active. There are many variables but the length's provided are an average.

Are there any actual indicators of Python behaviour at time when they're ready to breed???

It needs age and size. | I've grown Water Pythons to 1.8m in 12 months I had one well over a metre at six months (which would have been in time for winter cooling if I'd chosen to). I've bred them at 18 months of age. I think they need to be both old and large enough. One without the other isn't enough. Snakes in captivity can usually reach breeding size well before breeding age (and often do), which is probably why we often overestimate minimum breeding size. Sometimes people grow their snakes up very slowly, in which case they may be perfectly healthy but too small to breed for several years after they could have if they were grown quickly. I've seen plenty of examples of both.
slim6y: courtship, copulation, ovulation... etc
