beardie?

my 1.5 yr old boi the other day was hiding and was very dark in colour. it is not like him to hide even when he is sleeping. the blue tongue that is kept with him always hides and it was really weird to see spike under hiding with him. he is fine now but just wondering if anyone knows what might have caused this?
