RE: beardie eggs

Hey bud i think you would be refering to vermiculite, it is a substrate used for the incubation of eggs, it holds water quite well and keeps eggs hydrated and stable throughout the incubation process

RE: beardie eggs

My beardie's first (and only) clutch didnt have too many eggs in it. We purchased a bag of vermiculite (comes in 1-5kg bags and is anywhere from $4-$7 from k-mart, bunnings, bigW and other places with garden centres).

Because there werent too many eggs we were able to keep them in a chinese container. I am not claiming that this is the correct way of incubating eggs because I was completely unprepared for them and had not purchased beardies with the intention to breed.

After looking on the net for instructions (blinking pet store told me to just leave them in the sand) we decided to put some moistened vermiculite in the bottom of the chinese container and seal it (small holes had been drilled into it for ventilation - it was an old clean cricket container). We then kept between 29 & 32 degrees in another enclosure (the enclosure I used is alot like an incubator in design). Just made sure the vermiculite stayed moist. 2 eggs of 3 hatched from a total of 6 laid (had 3 slugs).

I am not sure if what I did was correct and so will not claim that this is what you should do if you want to breed beardies. If you are unprepared however, as I was then this might work for you too. If you do want to breed them, Id recommend asking beknluke about what she does. She breeds the most GORGEOUS beardies and they all seem to be very happy, healthy little guys. She might be able to give you a little more information!

Good luck with it all!

lol
Hey Erin
How are ya hun?? (and thanks for the plug!! lol)
It's great to see how gorgeous your little one is looking!!! Before I realiesed it was you I was thinking 'I'm SURE that that's one of mine!!' I just recognised it LOL!! I LOVE those black markings!!
I buy my vermic from a garden centre in Boronia

Natures Own
397 Dorset Rd Boronia
03 9761 0662
(www.hydroponic.com.au)

Grade C vermic (not the chinkiest one, but probably the most popular size for incubation) was $29.95 for 100lt.
(thanks westy for picking it up for me that time )

I incubate at approx 30 degrees for 60ish days. I use an air tight container but cut the middle out of the lid and replace it with clingwrap.
Good luck
Bex

Unfortunately I don't have anything for sale at the moment, otherwise I'd be happy to help lol
