i have two 8 month old beardies and am having trouble getting them to eat anything but crickets and roaches, they dont seem to want a bar of any sort of fruit or veg or even that granulated beardie food... iv tried fasting them for a few days then giving them some greens, even placing it on one of those vibrating food dishes, but they refuse to eat... any suggestions as to how i can overcome this would be super? |

Hmm, i find mine naturally want to eat greens. Do you put any calcium or vitamin supplements on them wen u feed ?

There is no prob with them eating insects. Just make sure that you dust the insects with calcium and multi-vits before you feed them to your dragons and you will have no probs. My adults mainly eat insects and occasioanlly will take the vegies i put in there and they are as healthy as anything. The female triple clutched (so far) and this is her first time breeding.

try puttin the crickets and roaches in the fridge for a while so they slow down, then put them in the bottom of the food bowl under the veg. as they make their way up through the veg the movement should get em interested, and as they greedily try and pick out the crickets, they usually get a mouthful of veg aswell. worked for my dragon, didnt eat veg until i tried this and now eats veg fine

I know its not a beardie, but I have trouble getting my bluey to eat much of anything - but one of the posts here on APS mentioned using mixed veg and a bit of dog food (I also added vitamin powder), in a food processor to get it finer, then freeze into ice cube trays. I did it today and he ate a whole one (defrosted of course) - which is more than he has eaten in 2 weeks. Maybe the combination of smells he liked, or the consistency, but it works wonders! Thank god cause I was starting to get a bit worried.

Lettuce isnt good for beardies at all ! Icerberg, loose leaf are especially bad as they can cause diarrhea (and they have poor nutritional value) and Romaine and red leaf arnt as bad but they still arent healthy nutrional wise

My Central Netted Dragons weren't too keen on vegies to begin with, but boy they're keen on mealworms... so I cut up some bok-choy and put some mealies on the bottom of the dish with the veggies on the top. The mealworms wiggle around and as jonesc1 said, the lizards will try to grab the worms and accidentally get something green, which they find isnt so bad after all. My Netties will eat veggies just fine now, but if theres mealworms mixed in they'll dig them all out first cheeky buggers!

I feed mine mostly insects, and offer them vegies once a week, I feed grated carrots, and Dandilions (whole plants) I also found the hatchlings like to eat clover. What type of beardie is it? Easterns are often very reluctant to eat greens at all, though ones kept with skinks ect will learn eating behaviours off them and usually eat what ever they do.
