Beardie Question

I read on the internet recently the life expectancy for beardies is only 4-6 years. Does anyone know if this is true? My beardie Fudrucker is almost 4 years old and I'm getting worried.

Thanks in advance..

Excellent, looks like I've got some more good years with my little fella. Lost a chicken to old age today and dreaded the thought of losing more pets in the near future..

Thanks...

Little is known about reptile longevity in general, though most Australian Agamids don't seem overly long lived, some smaller desert Sp. only live for a year, some like Central netteds 3 - 5 years. The Bearded Dragon Manual states most Central Beardies live for 5 - 8 years, with a unauthenticated report of one living to 12 years. The main two author's of this book own the Sandfire dragon ranch, and are very respected worldwide by supplying thousands of highly coloured dragons around the US. Another Book, Reptile Keeper's Guide to Bearded Dragons by R.D. Bartlett & Patricia Bartlett, states a record of a wild caught adult Eastern Bearded dragon living in captivaty for 9 years 11 months and the longest known Central Bearded Dragon living to 10 years and 1 month. Water Dragons on the other hand will live 40 - 50 years if well looked after.

The eastern beardies i had as a kid lived for 8 and 9 years. If i had taken them to a vet i reckon i could have dragged them out a bit longer.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but how about breeding age for beardies? At what age do they become 'too old' to breed, particularly females?

depends on their health ect. Females will breed to their deaths (and is often partly the cause of their deaths) but their clutch sizes and clutch no's will drop. The second, third and forth seasons are when she should be at her best, then it's all down hill from there. Males are often at their peak on their second year, good breeders for a couple more years, then slowly loose interest as years pass. Much of this depends on husbandry aspects ie; Are they kept together 24/7? How many are kept together? How well are the older dragons being cared for? How stress issues being delt with? if at all?.............................................. ...
