mine manage to pick teh smallest mealies and roaches out of their salad,..without touching any of the green stuff.
i tried having a 'standoff' with them, for almost a week, but just felt too nasty to continue, i'd put their salad bowl down and they'd look @ me and 'air eat' while looking @ the bowl, then me, then the bowl then me,...
so i hand feed them their salad,..only takes 5 mins or so,..and its part of our daily bonding time. they do like their salad, they just expect to be hand fed.
about the mealies, i've never ever heard of a mealie eating its way out of a dragons stomach,..mine chew them so well i cant imagine they'd be even half alive, and after getting dumped in digestive juices i cant imagine them having a chance.

I have 4 beardies and they get a small tub of mealworms about once a fortnight... they love them, and as yet no problems...
As far as the veg go, I agree try the different coloured veg and flowers.... hybiscus are great... mine ate those before the carrot and salad... They also love the 'home-brand' frozen vege. Peas, carrot, beans, broccoli and cauliflower. Already cut into the right sized bites, and it only takes about a minute in warm water to defrost.
They seem to have a great time chasing the peas around the grass.
another idea is to put the beardie on the grass and see what he nibbles on. you might need two people, as once they get warm they can be pretty quick, and stand really close, just incase a crow or kookaburra flys overhead.
