Exclamation Beardie thats in a bad way

This is probably going to be a long story but...
late this arvo I picked up a beardie, the woman that called about it had rescued it from some kids that lived near her, the kids were on their way to let it go at some soccer oval's. The woman could tell the little guy wasn't very well so she asked the kids to give it to her and she also asked the kids a few questions, she could tell that these kids were a bit cautious about answering (like they had been told not to). Anyway the kids told her that they got it last summer, caught it at the river, and have been keeping it in a cage in the back yard (they used to have a lot of them but let them all go).

Anyway the little guy is very sick he can't move except to lift his head up (but only briefly), he will not eat or drink, I have given him sub cut fluids and also put him on heat, he seems to have made a little improvement, even opened his mouth to take oral fluids, does anyone know what else i can do for him overnight to try and give him a little more strength?

Also will put up pics of him can anyone tell me from the pics approx how old it would be, apparently the kids found him with lots of other babies and his mum, doesn't really make sense (unless captive bred) but just saying what I was told.

Any advise would really be appreciated

Vet asap...Keep offering fluids, place some food in front of his mouth and see if it'll eat it, maybe it wont but it's worth a try...

I'd be giving him UV too in case they were keeping him inside and just telling you porkies. I would try some baby food on this nose, in the hope that he'll start licking it off. Would then incorporate some calcium/vitamins into the baby food. I use the puree apple variety.

I vaguely remember a very similar situation posted on here some time ago - or am I imagining it?

Casey - If nothing else, you can tell this Beardie has not been fed or heated correctly - it is FAR too small for a One year old Beardie...

...this would make me suspect it had been housed indoors...I would whack it under a UV ASAP - get it out in the sun when you get the chance and get some Calcium/Vitamin supplements into it (obviously not easy at this stage)...I think you will find having it on some heat (which I suspect it hasn't had) will help considerably...

I agree with Aslan. Give it some sun!! but sure there is somewhere to get out of the sun as well or you'll cook it. Baby food, meal worms, dandelions (not milkweed), lettuce, rocket.... if it will feed... but, don't stress about the food too much, these animals can (usually) survive months without a feed.

Thanks everyone. As I said before will be taken to vets asap, just no 24hr ones here. i will update in the morning on how he's going. I'm trying more to get fluids into him atm and he has seemed to reacted pretty well with fluids and heat, will give him uv tomorrow as i don't want to stress him out by messing with his daytime/nighttime rhythm.

I have taken him to the wildlife clinic at the zoo here. they will keep him overnight and do x-rays and stuff to see what kind of overall health he is in.

I have just gotten off the phone with the vet, they did some x rays and found that he has some bone density issues in all his bones, which is related to bad diet and being put in a prolonged environment with no uv , he also has some neurological problems which they are sure also has to do with diet.
The vet will keep him under observation for a few days giving sub cut fluids, uv calcium and vitamin suppliments. if he seems to respond alright to this they will send him to me for some long term care to try and strengthen the bones.
Keeping fingers crossed for him.
