Beardies: Favourite foods and fussy eaters!

We have only had our Bearded Dragon for a week now and seems to love gents (maggots) but we have not seen him eat anything else. I put the gents into his feed bowl with allsorts of goodies but he waits until they crawl out, and then eats them!

Just wondering if anyone had a fussy eater or which food was their beardies favourite as a juvenille. I already have 2 fussy eaters in my house - am I going to have another? or is this normal for one so young? (approx 10 days).

Thanks!

If he is 10 days old then give him a break, he probably has only been eating for 7 days. Just offer many different types of insects like roaches and crickets for at least another month then one day don't feed him the insects and out in a bowl of food later in the day, he may/may not eat them. If he does gradually give him equal amounts of each.

cheers and hope that haelps

They normally become less fussy with age, try other insects like crix or woodies and leave some greens in there as well and it should soon catch on.

I usually give him a small bowl of fresh greens in the morning with a couple of gents and then a couple in the arvo. Whatever live food he hasn't eaten in about 1/2 hour, I remove. Just a paranoid first Mum - don't want him to starve or get sick!

IMO you shouldn't have the dragon at 10 days old, it should be at least 14 days old before the breeder sold it, i wont sell a beardies before 14days, usually 3 weeks.

Yes I thought that was very young also, but not having done this before thought "Okay, must be right". I bought him from a petshop that had a decent reptile section, but I'm quickly finding out that some of their advice wasn't quite right. The more I'm learning the more I'm questioning their advice, hopefully no harm done to Komode though.
