Beardies - need advise for when im away

Hey Guys,

I currently have 2 eastern beardies,

My question is, what should i do when i go away.

I am going away over long weekend which is fine as its only a short trip

but at christmas im going away for over a week and none of my friends like lizards (they think they are scary - little do they know) they are so not scary nor do they bite!

Anyway does anyone know of a reptile sitter or do i just give them a huge feed for a week?
and dread for the worst re smell of enclosure when i return?

im not sure what to do but ive got till christmas to sort it out but any ideas would be appreciated

Em

Visit MySpace Profile
i'd find someone to watch them.
i mean they can be pretty hardy and might go without food for a week but it seems kinda cruel
and you might come back and find tail tips and toes missing

Get someone to look after them, but if you absolutely cant and it's only a week, leave 2 bowls of fresh water and throw a heap of crickets in the enclosure. They can then eat when they want. Cricket mounds are good for this too. You could also leave out the dried bearded dragon pellets.

no please dont leave them for a week. You might have to put a "reptile sitter wanted" ad in the paper closer to the time. The crickets might start eating your lizards or they might start nibbling each other. What if the power goes out or the heat globes blow. And what if you get held up and cant get back for a few more days.

definately dont leave crix in the cage, maybe a neighbour can come and dump a fresh load of salad in every day and change water, and check lights, shouldnt be too hard if everythings on timers and u make the salad in advance,....maybe even seperate them while ur gone so they dont nip each other

dont make them bother with insects, thats just a turn off for way too many people.

You could do risk it and put some crickets in the enclosure. Or you can get someone to look after it.

I totally see your reptile sitting problem, I've got the same problem too.
I normally get a herp friend to look after some and pay my younger bro( in maltesers) who's 18 to look after the rest as he is into herps/frogs//bugs too.

I'm happy to help if wanted,
what care were you looking for? - someone to come to your house to feed and clean them
or someone to kind of adopt them just while you are away?
