branches

hey wen you find branches out in the scrub.. is there any thing you do to them to stop them from rotting and going hollow and also should i stain or laquer them

Keep it clean and dry. No need to stain it and laquer will only make it slippery for your snake.

You can clean it with a 1 part bleach / 10 parts water solution or boiling water. Make sure you do this before you put it in the cage for the first time, as to kill any bugs that could possibly be lingering around.

and leave it outside in the sun for a few days or even better put it in a black garbage bag in the sun, so it cooks any possible critters inside

Yep. If you want to be really cautious you can put it in the oven for a few minutes, but it is not really needed. Just make sure you rinse all the bleach off then air dry it or put it in the sun.

does it matter what type of "tree" for coastal carpet , blueys or beardies?

I wouldn't think so. Just as long as it's not Pine or Cedar you should be in the clear.

cheers anteup, as i just pulled some dead branches from a local park recently, put them in several cages, after treatment, all seem fine except 1 beardie, who has got sick and in the vet at the moment!~cages were different animals too.
