I don't know if it will work for your Bredli, but it worked with my little "chainsaw" of a childreni.

I found that picking her up with a hook as MrB has said, and placing her straight on my hand, then as she moved forward, bringing my hands up from under her (never in front of her face) helped. But also, what seemed to make the biggest difference, was a firmer grip. Obviously not squashing her too tight.. .but just enough pressure to make her have to work through my hands, maybe she felt a little more secure.

And then the more she calmed down the more confident I grew.. and now she never bites at all. And she was really bad... 5-6 times would have been nice... she used to strike continuously.. more like 20 odd times.

Anyway... good luck with it.. and keep us up to date!!

Cheers, Nic.

This time of year snakes get real hungry.
Are you sure you are feeding it large enough food?

Upping her food doesn't mean she is eating enough, not to tell you how to suck eggs but she should be eating about 15 - 20% of her body weight...

..also, I don't necessarily agree with the firmer grip theory...I think if your snake is biting in relation to fear or stress this will only exacerbate the problem. I had two psychotic young Stimmies - I left them both alone. They were hooked out of their tubs for cleaning etc and never handled. I then began handling at about 10mths and both are absolute dreams - haven't struck since...

my stimmies ar an absolute dream and wont strike at all...My SW carpet on the other hand used to strike when in his cage (cage defensive), and fine when he was out...but he is starting to get alot better now...I think all acrpets are known to be snappy when younger...IMO Oh and i just put up with the bites and handled him every so often...

mate i've got a 10 month old bredli, and he's a bit cage defensive but once he's out he's pretty good. he should calm down with a bit of age on him, just be a little patient

...excessive handling causes excessive stress - excessive stress leads to a defensive snake...

Using that logic, and my experiences with letting them get some age and size about them, I have found that 'the more you handle them the calmer they get' does not ring true...as I said, I did not handle my Stimmies at all, they were hooked in and out for cleaning, and once they grew a little larger and got a little older they were no longer the spawn of satan...

...I understand the desire to handle your animal, some choose not to, some choose to, that's a personal preference. I definately handle my snakes but only every few days for a short time. You need, however, to consider the well-being of your snake as the most important thing - ie. if you have a snake that freaks out everytime it is handled, then you shouldn't be handling it...if you need to wait a few months to let them settle and calm, then that is what should be done...

...let us know how you go...
