Can anyone do this for me, or recommend anyone or a vet that can?

Vets are notoriously poor probers. Try to get a snake breeder, they'll have more experience and will probably charge you less (probably nothing). Vet clinics are also great places for snakes to pick up diseases (that's where people take sick snakes). You shouldn't have trouble finding a snakie who can visit you in St Lucia.

Hey shooshoo let me know how u go, I've rang around a few vets and the prices I got were about $25 for each snake! And it's been hard finding snake breeders that are inner city so the stafford rd guy seems like the cheapest

Bob Donnelly at uq st lucia vet clinic does it as part of the vet check consult. he is there tuesdays and also on thursday mornings. and your snake wont pick up a disease nor is he inexperienced. i believe the consult is a bit over 30 bucks but they can tell you if you call. he is very good and will answer any other quieries you have. if you like he will also do a feacal smear for you to check for parasites including protists.
cheers
H.
lol added to that if i ever get off my *** and purchase a set of probes i could do it for ya. though i am against probing little hatchies

A reptile vet or a breeder can probe your snake. Just make sure that the person is experienced in probing.
If you don't want your snake probed, try stroking from the tail tip to the cloaca. If the snake everts its hemipenis (or not), you can get a pretty good idea of what you've got. Also, if you keep your snake's old skins, you could check them. Male snakes can shed the skin on their hemipenis.
Finally, female snakes are supposed to have shorter tails, relative to body length.

A vet that specialises in reptiles as well as other animals (our vet is also keeps herps and is very good, unfortunatly wrong area for you), or as others have said a breeder.

Most vets aren't familiar with probing a wide variety of snakes, most have only probed a small number of snakes in total. Breeders typically probe 100+ snakes every year, and when they do it they probe a few dozen at a time, which gives a much better perspective than probing one or two every now and again. I know of plenty of snakes which have been missexed by vets, but then again, I suppose I know of plenty of snakes which have been missexed by some of the country's so called top breeders! I must admit, while they are the minority, a small number of vets are quite competent probers.
I've met Bob from UQ at St Lucia (the guy Helikaon suggested), I can't comment on his probing ability, but I'd imagine he'd know what he is doing. He is one of the very few vets who tells the story as it is, is knowledgable, and admits when he doesn't know what is going on, rather than making up a false diagnosis to justify his fee.

Isn't Bod Donnelly also the Avian specialist at UQ? I seem to remember taking my cockateil to see him for a few months for hormone replacement therapy of all things! Anywho, yes... will give them a call and take my two little 'boys' down as soon as i have a day off work where i don't have either dogs to wash, fish tanks to clean, or parrots to exercise! *wimper*
thanks for all the help everyone, just goes to show how a difference of opinion can really be a good thing after all!

One of the benefits in being a current financial member of the Herpetological Society of Queensland Inc.
is that you can have your snakes probed FREE by experienced herpetologists at meetings ...
as long as you follow the rules
Bring snake along in a calico bag inside a click clack (or similar) and only take it out to be probed
then immediately back in bag and click clack
