Cherrywood melamine

Just a quick question,

You can buy white melamine at bunnings, does anyone know where I can by Cherrywood melamine?

I'm located in Eastern Sydney if that helps.

Thanks in advance,

Kane

If you can get out to Leichhardt then these guys would be able to help, they can cut to size plus do all your edging. http://www.lifetime.net.au/

You might also try Tristis, he lives out your way and could possibly help you out (i think he may be able to get it through his work, but could be wrong).

Make sure it is HMR melamine as well if you are building a snake enclosure. Bunnings don't stock HMR melamine either so anything from those guys is just your standard melamine.

HMR doesnt matter a heck of a lot, just incase you spill water everywhere it wont wrinkle up and go funny

There's a little thing called Snake PISS and also humidity. It DOES make a heck of a difference if you want you enclosure to last you a long time. For the extra little bit of money ($50 vs $80 for a coloured sheet) it is well worth it.

HMR = High Moisture Resistant.

The particle board is treated with a special glue that stops it swelling, going moudly or falling apart in moist conditions. Ever seen standard particle board when it gets wet?? Not pretty!!

Yes i know you can silicone seal gaps etc but Humidity can be a bitch sometimes, so i'd play it safe and go the HMR. Then again it's your money not mine!

I would have to agree with womanator, HMR does make a difference, especially if a snake goes for a dip and overflows the water bowl. I day soaking is enough to destroy normal melamine, or at least start to. Spend the money Kane on HMR melamine, the stuff at bunnings is cheap because it isn't HMR. If you want to see the difference, come around and have a look.

HMR is much better if you can afford it ........
My childrens/mac cages are not HMR , but at $28 cut to size per cage for standard melamine ...i use standard shelving and i know the guy so he cuts it for free for me , even throws in the stripping for free ...... so i am willing to risk it ....even if i only get 2-3 years out of them , its not a big loss .
But if you have the money go for HMR .
I made aquarium furniture for 5 years and have seen just how little water it takes to swell up standard stuff .

The melamine at bunnings is very cheap and nasty stuff. I've found my bunnings dreadful with all wood products, getting stuff thats not bowed is near impossible.

I built a quicky out of it, and it will do the job if there isn't a lot of water, especially if you seal the edges, and better still if you do something like tile the base and silicon around the edges.

Thanks for the info. I need the cherry wood melamine for a rack I'll be putting in my room. It has to match :rolls:.

I bought some white melamine on Sunday and started to build an enclosure, but it is going to be sealed with silicone and it has a Peg Board back so I don't think humidity will be a huge issue for the moment.

Thanks everyone,

Kane
