| | | Childrens Python not eating Hello All,
I have a beautiful 2 yr old childrens python. Until recently he has been a very keen feeder , however he has now refused to eat for about 3 weeks and recoils from the mice when offered. I feed adult mice that are thawed and warmed as i always have. He seems to be very healthy and has no sign of mites. His enclosure has not changed except for a new heat lamp recently and is maintained at 30 degrees. His last few feeds before he refused to eat were much calmer then usual and we thought he was just calming down . Recently he has also started spending alot of the night hours actively moving around his tank and it would seem he is trying to escape? He lives in a 3 foot fish tank that has 3 side lined (to avoid heat loss) He has litter substrate and hiding log ang climbing stick. We are very worried so if any body can help it would be most appreciated. Could he be bored with eating mice only??
Thanks. |

I now wait until she sheds before feeding her. She is a little over 2 y.o.

It sounds like it's possible that your childrens is looking for a girlfriend. Coming into breeding season, snakes that have reached sexual maturity (around 2 in anteresia) in will often switch off their food. Also, cruising around at night can also be another sign that he's a bit randy
If this is the reason for him switching off, then he my not get feeding again for a few months, and this is nothing to worry about, but if he continues not to feed and you get concerned, maybe take him to the vet to check him out.
Good luck!! |

Didn't eat for almost 3 months, lost a bit of weight initially but was ok. I found bump the temps up to around 32 in the hot end and leave it alone, no handling at all. wait a few weeks and then offer food, if refused don't offer food again for another week.
i eventually cut the nose of an adult mouse and he took it, don't know if that was a trick or he was finally hungry. ever since this first feed i only offer food every 2 weeks and haven't had a drama, still takes a little longer before striking but he is eating. i have also been feeding him in the enclosure now so there is no stress initially prior to feeding.

They are very active at night, but not the least bit interested in food. As soon as you open the door to the enclosure they will actually climb over the rat to get out.
They did the same thing this time last year, and when I put them together they were going at it afer a few minutes, although nothing came of it.
So yes he is probably feeling frisky.

Cheers to you all

I gave her 1 mouse (planning to give her 2) on the 20th, she sniffed but didn't grab it like she usually does. By the time I noticed that she was eating it, it was half gone so it was a rush to defrost the second mouse. She refused the second mouse so it was thrown out the next day.
