Trueblue, Serpenttounge, have you heard of cloudy eyes due to cooling stress ?

And i wouldn't expect something like that to even occur in a cold tolerant species like a Diamond. I would expect a respiratory infection to emerge before any problems with the ducts/eyes.
Purplesnakegirl, you say she's 3 years old, but have you had her all that time? If she's a recent purchase perhaps she had Mouth Rot for her previous owner and this is a side effect or re-occurance?? Just a thought!

I've seen this twice before in wild Diamonds.
Both specimens had only one eye cloudy.
I assumed it was a cataract.

When we opened her mouth it looked very red and there was also a little free blood which was definately not evident when the vet looked at her. My friend was pretty sure it was panophthalmitis the infection that serpentongue and TrueBlue mentioned. He wasn't sure what might have caused it but I remembered that a while back, about 2 months ago, she was holding her nose up in the air sometimes and I didn't think anything of it. Apparently this is a symptom of a respitory infection, I only just found out. So we think that Maybe the panophthalmitis was somehow set off by a respitory infection she had which has now subsided. We are injecting her with antibiotics and vitamins so hopefully she'll be ok. |

hope it clears up soon  |

Originally Posted by serpenttongue It looks like Panophthalmitis which is an infection between the eye and the spectacle. This is caused when the lacrymal ducts in the roof of the mouth become clogged up or infected(as TB said). This usually occurs during/after a snake has had Mouth Rot which can cause the palate to swell, blocking the ducts, or the ducts can become filled with the cheesy crap that Mouth Rot produces. If left untreated, the infection becomes worse and forces the spectacle outwards, which can look as if the eye itself is swollen. The vet will most likely give your snake antibiotics and in severe cases the fluid can be drained from within the spectacle. I would also get the vet to check for any blockages in the Lacrymal ducts. |
You seem to know alot about this and a couple of weeks ago I wrote in that I had the same problem with my 2 Coastals.I have since taken them to the vet to be treated and it just so happens to be the same vet that Purplesnake girl goes to.
I am wondering if you could help further in terms of care such as temps and other things concerning the care of my pythons. As the vet can only do so much and I want this kicked in the cloaca. |

After injecting her with a course of antibiotics and vitamins and also gently rubbing opthalmic ointment onto her eyes everyday she seemed to recover greatly. there was no sign of infection on the roof of her mouth anymore but here eye's were cloudy still but not getting any worse. After her latest shed (a week ago) her eye's are perfect and clear undernieth the old skin and she seems 100%
-Monkeyman- Yeah we called Jan as soon as I had my friend look at her and saw that the problem was serious. We explained what we saw and she agreed that it needed treatment straight away so I went to her first thing the next morning to get the antibiotics.
-Lurk- Sorry just read your post now I've sent you a pm  I hope they're doing ok. | | | |
