Coastal Mouth Infection?? Help please!

Hi all
I bought a coastal carpet python last weekend and upon closer inspection I noticed that the area around his mouth looks abit deformed, almost skeletal? I have looked around the internet for pictures to see whether this is normal but so far, I havent found any. I have a picture of what he looks like but its not very clear, just wondering if someone could tell me what it is and if its normal.

Any help would be muchly appreciated, thank you =)

You dont ask you dont learn.. and I'd rather be sure than put my snake at risk. Its statements like that which deter people from asking questions.

Perfectly normal looking snake. Just the heat pits on the bottom jaw I'd say. You should get some reading material and learn a bit about these animals before you get them, would save yourself a lot of stress.

If I could find the answer in the book I have on pythons do you think I'd ask about it here?? This is supposed to be Herp Help. In future, I'll keep my questions to myself and just 'wing it' from the internet.

One thing that will serve you well on this site is not to take things too seriously when it comes to replies on this forum. Take what information you need a toss the sarcasm etc. I can understand what u mean though, its hard to ask for advice when people make you feel bad for not knowing things, people forget that they once knew nothing about herps. If you need help with anything herp related dont be afraid to ask, because at the end of the day the health of your snake is more important than your pride.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Coastal Mouth Infection?? Help please!

Hi mauesha, does it look like this?

If so, as mentioned above, these are 'heat pits' and are quite normal for your species. The colour in and around the pits can vary and when they are dark inside, they can look very obvious.
