Compact Max Globe

Hey,

What do you guys think of these? Are they suitable for bearded dragons?

I was going to use a ReptiSun 5.0 Fluoro but am considering using one of these with a reflector. They come in two strengths as well, 10.0 and 5.0, is there any added benefit to getting the 10.0 over the 5.0?

Cheers.

RE: Compact Max Globe

Hey mate how are you, the rating on these guys are directly related to the UVB output the 5.0 is 5% UVB and the 10.0 is 10% UVB they both produce 30% UVA

The reflector on the compact max pack directs the UV so that the penetration is better, the rating above is at 20 - 30cm without the reflector, and around the 40cm mark with the reflector.

They have been tested for the past 6 months prior to being released, and have been found to be a sensational product...... and on top of all that we have 20% off them from now until the end of july.

Hope this helps
Take care
Matt

RE: Compact Max Globe

hi,
just a quick question, do you still need to use a second heat bulb for basking,
i use the mercury bulbs as heat and uv,
i'll need to replace some soon and just want to know if these new Compact Max Globes give out heat as well as uv,

cheers,
steve.........

RE: Compact Max Globe

Hey mate not much heat is provided just good amounts of UV so you will still need to run an alternative heat source.

Hope this helps
Matt

RE: Compact Max Globe

Recomended to replace them after 2000 hours mate other wise UV production is at a minimum it will still give visable light long after that though

RE: Compact Max Globe

thanks matt,
looks like i'll stick to my mercury bulbs,

cheers,
steve............

ps. not sure how long the uv lasts in the mercury bulbs but what are the odds of having 2 blow the same day and they were bought the same day, i did get about 12 months out of them, going on an average 6 hours use every day for 12 months comes to about 2100 hours, give or take a few, so my guess is they had seen better days anyway,

RE: Compact Max Globe

I would say that if they blew on the same day it would be due to something external (power surge etc.) either that or it is the most remarkable coinsidance i have ever seen :-)

UV doesnt run out in mercury vapor bulbs as it is a by-product of the mercury vapor process so is constantly produced.

Hope this sheds some light (pun intended) on the subject

Take care
Matt

I think that the mercury vapours are the best reptile light/heat source their is. BUT.. if you have a cage that is 500mm x 400mm x 400mm you will kill everythign so these compacts have a very useful niche to fill. I swear by the mercury vapours and in a large cage I wouldn't use anything else but I jsut built a couple of banks of little cages and no other UV fluro will fit in them. They are perfect.

Would the mercury vapour bulbs be suitable for a 900L x 450H x 350D you think?

Only good with heaps of ventilation mate it may get a little warm in an enclosure that size, they are high output and only come in 100w or 160w

Yeah, I noticed they only come in large wattages. I think I'll just go the Compact Fluoro, is there any obvious benefit to getting the 10.0 over 5.0 for beardies?

What do you charge for about 1000 small woodies Matt?
