couple question from a book im reading??

hey im reading a phtotgraphic guide to SNAKES and other reptiles of australia and i ws wondering a couple thing im not sure of so

there are one or 2 loreal scales present,im pretty sure but was wondering what that meant and also

the tail is generally cylindrical,whats that mean???. other then that i understand all the other mobo jombo lol

I think the tail bit would mean , round , rather than triangular or flat shaped ....the GTS has a more triangular / flatter shaped tail for example ....
