Diurnal small species?

Can anyone suggest a small diurnal species that would be good for a beginner? I was going to go with a spotted but I dont want to miss all its activity by me being asleep? Perhaps one that is most active in the evening?

...a small diurnal WHAT exactly?

...if you are looking for diurnal your best bet would likely be a lizard - most are diurnal...

I dont think there are any truely diurnal pythons, many are awake and may wait in ambush or have a quick bask but generally not very active during the day.
