What age is he?

If he is still a hatchling then keep him heated as per normal right the way through - maybe drop a few degrees. If he is older than a hatchling then yes, definately cool him...

Diamonds are a cool climate snake - I asked this similar question when I purchased my Diamond and was told that insufficient cooling over Winter is considered by many to be the cause of DP Syndrome. I have since done quite a bit of reading on the subject and tend to agree...

Being in Sydney you will be fine as well - think of it this way, if they can live outside during this weather they can also live inside. I heat my DP for 6hrs during the day up to 25'c - I then turn off all heating...

They should have access to 30+ degrees during the warmer months, same as any other python.

Can you see any mark where the cut was?

Try letting him slide over your fingers of his own free will, and then see if he reacts when your fingers touch that area. He could just be reacting from the initial touch which he wouldn't be expecting.
