Electrical Specifics

I need to know what I need to set up my cabinet ready for my snake,

My brother will be down on the long weekend, and being electrically(is that a word? haha) trained will be helping me install it all...and if I give him a list helping to purchase it.

However whenever I go onto the local Electrical Outlet they basically stare at me when I describe what I'm after.

The cabinet is 6 foot long, I've gotten glass for the doors, its painted, I plan on doing the vents over the weekend coming.

I would like to have a light inside as well as heating,

if anyone out there electrical minded could give me a list of all the bits and pieces I'll need
..Specifics would also help

...as you can tell I'm used to a click clack tub, a heat mat and a thermostat

Thanks in advance
Dezza

Presuming it's for a python... i'd buy a 2ft fluoro with a diffuser from Bunnings, you may need an electrical lead for it so buy 2x 3m extension cords (the female connector gets cut off, leaving you with a 3m lead ready to be wired to your light fittings). The other extension cord will be for your heating.

Next i would buy a flanged ceramic fitting, a Habistat Pulse Proportional thermostat, a 100W ceramic heat emitter and a medium sized light bulb cage all from the Herp Shop.

I'd also pick up a cheap timer from Bunnings to switch the light on and off each day/night.

Yes sorry, it's for a 18 month old MD

We don't have a Bunnings here but I can find all the things locally.

I'm looking into Ceramic heat emitters,

Whats the difference between say a 100 watt OZ White Ceramic Heat emitters and a 100 watt OZ Black Ceramic heat emitter?

besides the colour and the price of course.

Not much,

Make sure if you use a ceramic it is light guarded! Pythons have a habit of curling around them, and when it comes on they get burnt!

Also make sure that if you use the lead from bunnings that it is shielded from the heat that some of these ceramics put out. I have seen these cables perish and become fire hazards very quickly. if you use the flanged fitting as previously mentioned they are longer than the shorter ,cheaper ceramic fittings which will increase the distance from the heat source. I strongly recommend that you use someone that has a restricted or full electrical licence to preform your work. the cheaper cables that bunnings supply are cheaper because they have less copper than a more expensive cable which means it will be more important for you to make sure you have a good connection and reduce any risks from hot joints. I use these cables for my 40watt globes but i don't skimp out on my cables when it comes to the larger current drawing globes/ceramics.
