I bought a pair of unfeeding hatchies last year. The male took a few weeks, i eventually got him over by scenting a mouse with a skinks tail. Only needed to do it once and he was straight over to unscented mice.
The female took a few months, was getting worried at one stage. I decided to assist feed her, i put the first mouse into her mouth and a touch down her throat. She continued to swallow it without hesitation. She then proceeded to take another two mice straight from my fingers, without any requirement on my part. From then on she was an eating machine.
Are you having trouble with some?

yes male will not take rat pups fom tongs but will if left on tub floor si he is not a problem. Female wont do anything but hiss at me, she appears to be interested when placing rat pup against her mouth and gently moving as if to present rat as being alive but then she just turns away. If I then move to repeat thats when she hisses at me.
not concerned as yet but would like to have her eating.
cheers

Try leaving a rat in the hide with the female. Perhaps with a bit more privacy and security she will take it. If leaving the rat in the hide doesn't work then i would suggest assist feeding. Mine went from a non-feeder to a bottomless pit within 30 secs of using that technique. Once the food was in her mouth she had the rest all figured out and it was game over.
I found that my BHP's preferred to take their food from the floor rather than from my fingers. I wouldn't worry at all about the male, that is pretty normal. In a few months i bet he will become much more enthusiastic and you'll be wishing you could turn back time! - Back to a time when he wasn't identifying your fingers as food!

As already been said try leaving it in the box with her.Sometimes they can be shy. Also i had a male juvy that was only interested in mice and wouldnt touch rats. When he was sold the guy bought him used the scent of quail to get him onto rats and he hasnt looked back.
Cheers MatE.
