Hey guys long time no see
I have a female darwin python and she is around 3yrs old, 6ft in length and not quite as round as a coke can.
Was just wondering if she would be ready for breeding?
As this is my first ever breeeding and really don't have much info
ie: Temps?,
Best time of year to be breeding?
Whether i should let her hatch them or incubate them myself ?
How round should she be ??
How do i tell if she is sexually mature ????
So any info would be greatly appreciated
Thanks guys

No, she won't eat while she is gravid, you have to have her very well conditioned prior to the beginning of the mating season.

From a scientific background - cooling is absolutely essential as the female wont ovulate and the males sperm may not be viable. This means that you could see a lot of action and then have nothing to show for it

Yes, very well fed. Start cooling in April, just switch off the night time heating, but leave the daytime temps as they are all throughout the mating season (32 degrees basking temp). I've never bred Darwin's so can't give you exact dates, but i presume mating will occur from May-August. Keep the night time heating off during this entire period, except if you feed your snakes during this time, in which case give them night time heating for 2-3 days so they can properly digest their food.

as this is my only snake i keep her at a constant 28 degrees all the time and she has a time controlled light that comes on during the day and turns off at night (am i doing this correctly " hope so") so what temp should i bring her down to during april and how long after i turn her down can i bring a male to her or do i take her to him?

Is it 28 degrees in the middle of the cage, or at the warmest part of the cage (i.e. the basking spot)? They should have access to 31-32 degrees at all times as well as having a cool spot of about 24-25 degrees. During the mating season, simply switch the heat off at night and back on in the morning. Keep the day time temps the same as normal. I'm not 100% sure on the timing with Darwin's, but i'd guess start cooling (turn off night time heat) at the beginning of April. Introduce the male to the female late April or early June. Put the male in with the female for 2-4 days at a time. Give him a break of 4-5 days in between each visit. Continue doing this all throughout Winter and by about September/October you should have a gravid female. Again, i'm not 100% certain on the times/dates, but it should be close to what i've suggested.

28 degrees at the coolest end is too hot mate, they should be able to get away from the heat when they want to. Try and set your cage up so that directly under the light (where the snake will sit) is a constant 31-32 degrees. If the light is on and off all the time (due to the thermostat) then try a smaller wattage globe. Aim for a cool end of about 24-25 degrees.
I'm not sure on the legalities of breeding loans in VIC, sorry can't help you there, perhaps call NPWS/DEC or whatever you guys have down there.
The cage you mentioned will be fine, make sure the hides are very big though, so that the male can still have sexy time with the female when she's in the hide.
They shouldn't fight, but a keep a close eye on them when they are first introduced.

Do you have a box or something that she normally hides in? When breeding season approaches, start using hides that are big enough for 2 snakes plus some extra so that they can move around and 'position themselves' without to much hassle. Normally you would offer a hide that they can only just fit into, as they feel more secure in a small hide.

Too right. You'll also need to think about how you are going to house/feed/maintain 15-20 baby snakes should you succeed in your efforts.
