Question For those who have had a snake escape......

How did it escape???

Reason I ask is because we are building our own enclsoure and what to keep it as escape proof as possible.

Thanks.

Mine got out through glass sliding doors, found him in the morning though

Nice surprise in my laundry basket.....

I saw the most genious idea yesterday though.....

Cut a piece of hose to the length of the door then slit it down the long ways and place over the gap

I use a anti wind strip that you're ment to use around entry doors. It's about 5mm X 5mm with adheasive on one side. Fits in between the sliding glass beautifully. Nothing gets past that.
Anyway, back to topic.....
Complacency. I occasionally don't check all the doors after cleaning, feeding etc and on the odd occasion one gets left open. **slaps himself up the back of the head**
It's a bit unnerving to fall asleep on the floor after a big nightshift only to wake up with a rather large Mulga curled up asleep next to you

Yeah the doors are the main thing, that's where my maccie escaped from this week, still no where to be seen!

I like the draft stopper idea as I had the hose but hubby forgot to put it on when he did the water change!

Well we will have full glass at the front and no sliding doors. Just a lid which will have a lock on it so I think I will be safe....lol

Dont let the snake see where you put the key . They are sneaky buggers .

I have a thin strip of glass (2mm) professionally glued to one of the glass doors so the snake can't squeeze through. The thickness was chosen by trial and error (2mm fitted, 3mm didn't). Originally I was going to put a Diamond Python in the enclosure but I didn't get a DP, so with a bit of modification, it will be the future home for my Childreni.

Yes, you CAN stop at ONE snake.

Back when my coastal was 12 months he somehow got out the glass sliding doors. I'm not completely convinced that my nephew didn't leave them ajar but anyway,

Looked everywhere, I thought, on the third day I had basically given up. Figured Kilim had seen the gap under the front door and done a Harold Holt.

SWIIC (She who is in charge) had a cot set up with her stuffed cows in it. She was rearranging them due to a new addition and found that Kilim was happily coiled up in the lap of one right down the bottom.

Anyway I digressed. From that point on I always make sure that the sliding doors are secure.

Oh and BTW I'm sure everyone knows this but glass in sliding channels often rattles as people run/walk/move around near it. It also used to "rattle" the snakes. A well positioned wedge of cork made for happier snakes.
