Just got a temp gun to go with my thermometer - the cool end is 25, warm end 41, basking spot surface temperature is 45...the surface temp. isn't as high as I was expecting...you guys might be right and he might not be as warm as he should be...

65-70 on the hot spot but he also need to have a CHOICE of temps from 70 down to 20 that he can hide in
